A young city located in the northern part of the state of Sinaloa, Los Mochis, whose name means «place of turtles» in the native language, is the third most important city in the state. It was founded by Benjamin Johnson in 1903.
This destination offers ecotourism and boasts exquisite cuisine based primarily on fresh seafood. However, the steaks are also very tasty. If you visit the city center, you’ll find the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Plaza 27, and the bandstand. Very close to the center is the city’s green lung: the Botanical Garden, founded by Benjamin Francis, who brought a great diversity of exotic plants to the city, as well as a wide variety of birds from Africa, Australia, and India.
This destination doesn’t have a beach, but just 30 minutes away is the third largest natural bay in the world, after Sydney and San Francisco. In Topolobampo Bay, near the Sea of Cortez, you can enjoy fishing, diving, and snorkeling; take a boat, raft, or yacht trip; or visit the Dolphin Sanctuary, Bird Island, the Bat Cave, and Maviri Beach.
If you enjoy sunrises or sunsets, we recommend visiting Farallón Island, where, in addition to relaxing, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views as the sun rises or sets.
Los Mochis is a key part of the Copper Canyon-Sea of Cortez Corridor, better known as Baja-Barrancas. Los Mochis is considered the gateway to the Copper Canyon, one of Mexico’s 13 natural wonders. Discover this magical place aboard our legendary Chepe Express train and embark on an adventure through the mountains of our country.
El Fuerte is one of the four Magical Towns of the state of Sinaloa; it’s located on the Chepe train line, just a two-hour train ride from Los Mochis.
El Fuerte is the fourth most populated city in the state of Sinaloa. This colorful city offers natural and architectural attractions, but it’s especially famous for its deep-rooted Yoreme indigenous traditions. This station is a must-see stop on our train route.
El Fuerte received its name because in 1610 the Spanish built a fort there to protect themselves from the natives. This town was an important mining center, and its history and old mansions are remarkable. The houses have been converted into beautiful hotels. Enjoy visiting the House of General Pablo Macías, the House of Culture, the Cathedral, and the Central Plaza.
We recommend exploring the Tehuoco ceremonial center, visiting the viewpoint, and discovering its attractions. A visit to the Jesuit Temple, visible from the Main Square, is a must, as is the spacious Municipal Palace. You can also learn about the local culture through the exhibitions of costumes and musical instruments at the Miguel Ángel Morales Museum. Among the unmissable activities are boat trips along the El Fuerte River, whether at dawn or dusk. During the trip, you’ll be delighted by the songs of the numerous birds that nest in the surrounding area. Also awaiting you is Cerro de la Máscara, the largest petroglyph site in the state of Sinaloa.
If you prefer to enjoy the tranquility of this Magical Town, set aside a couple of days to learn more about birds and fishing. You can witness the fabulous «Deer Dance» and learn the legend of «El Zorro.» Surrounded by the natural hospitality of Sinaloa, you’ll truly enjoy this place.

Besides exploring the town of Cerocahui and the vineyards, there are many tourist activities in Cerocahui. One of them is visiting the Huicochi waterfall with an 8-kilometer hike along a stream to reach the cascade. For trekking enthusiasts, there are other routes from Cerocahui, such as the hike to «Las Cascaditas» (The Little Waterfalls) or to the «Mirador del Valle del León» (Lion Valley Viewpoint).
Another attraction is the town of Cerocahui, located 18 kilometers from the Bahuichivo train station. Cerocahui was founded in 1680 in the beautiful valley by the Jesuit missionary Juan María de Salvatierra. Its climate is privileged, as it is temperate and humid year-round, maintaining a beautiful green carpet in its surroundings.

The most significant attraction to discover from Bahuichivo in Chihuahua, Mexico, lies further up the mountain, 1,879 meters from the Misional community, to the Cerro del Gallego viewpoint, considered by many to be the most spectacular in the entire Copper Canyon system. From there, an endless panorama unfolds, offering breathtaking views of the canyon’s depths, the town of Urique, and the river snaking below. After this experience, nothing will ever be the same. This excursion is a must-see.
